Jeep careers off roads and smashes in to wall on Bootle street

This was the scene this morning in Bootle where a car careered off a road and smashed into a nearby wall.

The driver is thought to have suffered a medical episode moments before the crash on Mildmay Road, at the junction with Linacre Road.

Pictures taken at the incident showed a grey Grand Cherokee Jeep which was involved in the accident just before 8am.

The male driver, 59, was taken to hospital.

His female passenger was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Road closures were put in place in both directions on Stanley Road from Linacre Lane to the Pacific Hotel as well as from Alpha Street to Knowsley Road.

They were reopened at around 9.30am.

This morning, the battered jeep was loaded onto a recovery vehicle.

A man scattered sand onto the road and pavement where oil had spilled from the crashed car.

One woman, who lives in nearby flats, told the ECHO: "I was at home when I heard a big bang, and looked out to see the car embedded into the wall.

"It seemed like he'd hit it very hard.

"People believed he had a heart attack at the wheel.

"I hope he's ok."

Police are appealing for witnesses of the crash and are asking if anyone had dashcam footage of the collision.

Contact Merseyside Police on Twitter, or call 101, quoting log 174 of 28th Oct.
