JEE Advanced 2026 exam on Sunday: Check timing, dress code, banned items, documents needed, and other guidelines

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2026 will be conducted tomorrow, i.e. on Sunday, May 17. The exam is being conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee at exam centres across the country. Candidates appearing for one of India’s toughest engineering entrance exams must follow all exam-day instructions carefully to avoid any last-minute issues.

JEE Advanced 2026 Exam Timings

The JEE Advanced 2026 examination will take place in two shifts, and students are advised to reach their allotted centres early for security checks and biometric verification.

The examination will be conducted in two papers on the same day: Paper 1 will be held from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon while the paper 2 will be held from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

Candidates belonging to the PwD category will receive an additional one hour of compensatory time.

What's allowed, what's not

There are several things students must carry to the exam hall while authorities have issued a list of items which are barred.

The items which are allowed inside the exam hall include:

Printed copy of JEE Advanced 2026 admit card

Original photo identity proof

Two passport-size photographs

Pens and pencils

Transparent water bottle

Candidates should ensure that all documents are in proper condition and match the details mentioned on the admit card.

The items which are prohibited in JEE Advanced 2026 exams halls include:

  • Mobile phones
  • Smart watches or digital watches
  • Bluetooth devices
  • Earphones and microphones
  • Health bands and pagers
  • Calculators and electronic pens
  • Pen drives and scanners
  • Wallets and handbags
  • Cameras and goggles
  • Printed papers or written notes
  • Log tables and writing pads
  • Geometry boxes, scales and erasers
  • Pencil boxes and pouches
  • Any communication or electronic device

JEE Advanced 2026 Dress Code

Candidates must also follow the prescribed dress code issued by IIT Roorkee.

Students have been also advised not to wear jewellery or metallic accessories such as:

  • Rings
  • Chains and pendants
  • Bracelets
  • Earrings and nose pins
  • Badges or brooches

Candidates should avoid clothes with large buttons and are encouraged to wear open footwear like sandals or chappals. Authorities have also prohibited charms, taweez and similar accessories inside the exam hall.

Important Exam Day Guidelines for Candidates

The question paper will be available in both English and Hindi. Students will also have the option to switch between languages during the examination.

As per the marking pattern, four marks will be awarded for every correct answer, while one mark will be deducted for each wrong response.

Candidates can download their admit card from the official website till May 17, 2026, up to 2:30 PM. The admid cards have important details like candidate's name, roll number, photograph, signature, exam center address and reporting time.

Candidates are advised to check their reporting time and exam centre address carefully before leaving home. Those travelling to centres outside their city should plan their journey in advance to avoid delays.

Students should also cooperate during frisking and biometric verification procedures at the examination centre. Reaching the venue early can help avoid unnecessary stress before the exam begins.
