Jedward say they are ready to become dads and tell of plans to donate sperm to friend in need

Jedward revealed they are ready to become dads as they opened up about plans to donate sperm to a friend in the US.

The pop duo, both 29, real names John and Edward Grimes, said they have been thinking about helping one of their longtime friends conceive a child for years, and now feel the time is right to get the process going.

Edward explained: “One of our good friends that we’ve had for many many years, relationships, and boyfriends and husbands come and go, but our friendship will always be a friendship. So we have discussed it for a few years.

“And she has frozen her eggs, and we suggested that either one of us, whichever works out.

“She wants Irish blood running through her baby, so we have great genes,” John added, saying that they are excited for the new chapter in their lives.

Set to celebrate their 30th birthdays later on this year, Edward added: “I think it's good because me and John, we are at a point in our lives, we are 30, we would have to get married and do certain things.”

The lads said they are still unsure who will be the sperm donor just yet, but teased they would be up for filming the process on TV if there was interest.

They added: “It would be John or Edward, but it will still be a really cool kid coming into the world. And it wouldn’t just be us, we’d help raise it.”
Speaking on The Ray D’Arcy show on RTE Radio 1 on Friday, they added: “Whoever has the better bits and boss and takes to it.”

“The thing about it is the baby would have the same DNA and hopefully if they had twins, that would be cool.

“This is 100% [real]. We’ve discussed this for many years, and I think we are at a point where we have thought about it a lot.”

The singing twins revealed they have discussed their plans in detail behind close doors for years, and told how they even told their late mother, Susanna, before she passed away in 2019.

“She knew all about it as well. It is only recently coming to light,” Edward said.

They added: “I think we’d be the best dads, and i feel like we have so much to give, and i feel it would be a huge chapter, a huge journey, and i feel when it comes down to being series and being a good dad, we could do that.”

“And it would be different, it wouldn’t be all the dramatics that comes with a relationship, it’s a friendship.”

After years of discussing the possibility, the duo said they are ready and willing to help their American friend in need.

“We are 29, nearly 30, like what, even if we got into a serious relationship now, we’d have to wait a few more years to even get going, and say ‘jeez, is this the one?’

“Our friend is struggling, so she actually needs somebody.”
