Jedward's Edward Grimes has appendix removed after condition became 'life threatening'

Jedward's Edward Grimes has had his appendix removed following 'life threatening' circumstances.

The singer, 29, - who shot to fame with his twin brother John on the X Factor, - tweeted a selfie from his hospital bed after the 'scary situation.'

"Just had immediate surgery to remove my appendix,” Edward tweeted. 'It was a life threatening and scary situation but I'm grateful the emergency team have operated on me and stopped the agony. I'm healing and on the road to recovery!" In a follow up tweet he said: 'Thank you for your caring messages.'

The singer went on to explain how he was grateful to the doctors that cared for him and 'stopped the agony' he was in revealing he had 'never experienced excruciating pain like this'.

The star, who underwent invasive knee surgery following a stage accident 10 years ago, captioned another picture: 'Thank you for your caring messages. I'm urging everyone to please take severe pain in the abdominal area serious as I've never experienced excruciating pain like this and knew something wasn't right.

'Blood tests and CT scans indicated I needed surgery. I'm grateful it was caught in time just knowing the feeling that your body and appendix can led to you poisoning yourself is insane.

'Don't brush off key signs from your body as health is everything.'

Jedward competed in the Eurovision song contest for Ireland (Action Press / Rex Features)

Disappointed to be missing tonight's Eurovision Song Contest in which Jedward competed for Ireland 10 years ago, the singer tweeted: ‘Like of all times of the year it had to be Eurovision night here alone not watching it with John and my family and dogs is wtf.'

The twins helped to give the country its best point tally in more than 20 years, finishing in eighth place, and returned to represent Ireland again the following year with the track Waterline.
