Jedward open up on loss of 'inspirational' mum in first TV interview since her death

John and Edward Grimes, known as Jedward, have opened up on the tragic loss of their mother Susanna, who passed away after a five-year battle with cancer in February.

The former X Factor twins, who are celebrating 10 years in the music business since shooting to fame on the ITV talent show, opened up on TV for the first time about their heartache.

John and Edward appeared on Loose Women on Thursday, revealing they were about to embark on a new tour and remember their 'inspirational' late mother.

Speaking to the panellists, the boys discussed the “hard” months they have faced since their mother passed away, admitting it still didn’t seem real.

Edward said: “It’s been ongoing for the past 5 years, and I feel now mum has passed, it just feels so weird cos it’s all we’ve ever known and you think you want to call her and there’s no one there to call.”

He added how their mum’s opinion “meant everything to them,” with brother John saying how she went everywhere with them.

John also revealed how having his twin brother helped him get through, as he had someone to open up to who was sharing his pain.

He explained: “That has been really, really good for me and Edward because we’re so open with each other, and were weren’t bottling it in.”

Edward then continued of their first time talking about it publicly: “We haven’t talked to anyone about it. It’s kind of very closed doors.

“It’s not just us mourning, it’s our fans and everyone is feeling for us.”

Edward went on: “It’s hard because we never publicly talked about the struggles, or our mum’s illness. She didn’t want to show weakness."

John then said: “She was always very private. Mum was such an inspiration to me as well, and even when I think about her just up to the point of passing, she was still fighting.”

The boys hold on to the fact that she “never lost who she was” before she died, and they believe she will be with them in spirit when they embark on their tour.

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV.
