Jedward, Mary Byrne and Niall Horan - here are the 5 best Irish X Factor acts

The X Factor will be back on our screens tomorrow night and we can expect tears, tantrums and plenty of out-of-tune singing.

Auditions were held here this summer for the first time since 2010 and judge Louis Walsh has boasted they’ve found some talented acts.

Before all the drama kicks off again, let’s look back at some of the most memorable Irish hopefuls who competed in the show.

Jedward

While they may not be the most talented singers, twins John and Edward Grimes - AKA Jedward - are definitely memorable.

The cheeky Dublin twists entertained viewers with their quirky style in 2009 before clinching sixth place.

They’re still touring today, have represented us twice in the Eurovision and are panto regulars.

Mary Byrne

Who didn’t fall for Mary Byrne a bit in 2010?

The down-to-earth Tesco worker blew the judges away with her version of Tom Jones’ I Who Have Nothing.

She clinched fifth place, released several albums, toured with Phil Coulter and starred in Menopause the Musical this year.

Eoghan Quigg

Baby-faced Eoghan became something of a heart throb in 2008 and was rumoured to have had a romance with fellow contestant Diana Vickers.

The Derry teen reached third place but failed to set the charts alight.

Eoghan hit the headlines again last year when he debuted an impressive muscly physique.

Tabby O’Callaghan

In the very first series of the X Factor in 2004 - when it was merely a no-frills talent show - Tabby was one of the biggest stars.

With his jetblack hair and dark eye makeup, the Sligo man attempted to bring a rock‘n’ roll edge to the show, winning over judge and mentor Sharon Osbourne.

It worked as he came third.

Niall Horan

Undoubtedly the most successful Irish X Factor contestant ever was Niall Horan.

Niall auditioned solo but was teamed with four others to form a band called One Direction.

And the rest is history.

The X Factor will air on TV3 on Saturday night at 8pm.
