Jedward celebrate X Factor axing with cheeky jibe after scathing tirade against Simon Cowell

Jedward have expressed their delight at the news of the X Factor’s ending, following a scathing tirade against Simon Cowell and top music industry executives earlier this year.

ITV confirmed they have "no plans" for another series of The X Factor after reports emerged that Simon Cowell had pulled the plug on the show after 17 years.

An ITV spokesperson said: "There are no current plans for the next series of The X Factor at this stage."

The talent show, which has launched the careers of Jedward, as well as chart toppers One Direction, Little Mix and Leona Lewis, was last aired in 2018 when Dalton Harris was the winner.

But it has been plagued by controversy in recent months after a number of former stars, including the Dublin born singers, accused it of exploiting and mistreating contestants.

The brothers, real names John and Edward Grimes, couldn’t hide their delight this morning as reacted to the news that the show was cancelled online.

They wrote on Twitter: "Xfactor has been axed Mission Complete."

Earlier this year Jedward launched a blistering attack against Simon, the X Factor and the music industry as they opened up about the dark side of the business.

In a series of explosive tweets, they hit out at the music mogul, calling him "nothing but a bad facelift".

The twins, who found fame on the talent show in 2009, also branded the industry 'corrupt and exploitive' and claimed that artists could be 'blacklisted' for speaking out against abuse by powerful bosses.

They said: "We’re sending courage and strength to all artists being f***ed over! It ends now.

"Nobody can't silence the truth! Nobody can drag me down! [sic]," they added.

Former winner Matt Cardle also spoke out about the show's duty of care in the past, admitting he was surprised there hadn't been more tragedies given the lack of aftercare.

Cher Lloyd has also been vocal about the "controlling" nature of the competition.

The X Factor was the brainchild of Simon Cowell, devised as a replacement for Pop Idol.

As well as creating the show, Cowell also worked as head judge alongside an ever-changing panel previously made up of Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger, Louis Tomlinson, Ayda Field and Robbie Williams.

It was revealed in February last year that Cowell was resting the programme for 2020 and Cowell will be judging a new musical game show on ITV called Walk The Line.
