Jed Wallace transfer talk addressed as Nottingham Forest plans for new signing laid out

Boss Steve Cooper has refused to be drawn on talk of Nottingham Forest targeting a move for Millwall winger Jed Wallace.

The Reds are understood to have made a play for the 27-year-old this month as they look to bolster their attacking resources, but have so far seen their approaches rejected by the Lions.

And they are not the only club keen on securing his services, with Besiktas, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough also said to be keen.

Cooper takes his team to the capital to face Millwall on Saturday, although it is uncertain if Wallace will be involved for the hosts, having been struggling with a quad problem.

Patience required

New signing Richie Laryea will have to wait to make his Nottingham Forest debut as he is eased into action in the Championship.

The full-back penned a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Reds on Saturday, joining from MLS side Toronto in a move thought to be worth in the region of $1m (roughly £740,000).

It is his first taste of English football, having previously plied his trade in the United States and his Canadian homeland. And with Toronto’s season having finished in November, he has gone a few weeks without any competitive action.

Forest head coach Steve Cooper says he will not be in contention to face Millwall on Saturday, but believes the 27-year-old can have a big part to play in the months to come.

Message sent

The rest of the Championship should have plenty to fear from a resurgent Nottingham Forest side, according to newcomer Steve Cook.

After shining in the spotlight as they dumped Arsenal out of the FA Cup in impressive fashion on Sunday, the Reds turn their attention back to league action this weekend.

A promotion push in the second half of the campaign is very much the aim for Steve Cooper’s men, who currently sit six points below the play-off spots, in ninth place.

They make the trip to Millwall looking to bounce back from successive league defeats, but Cook believes their 1-0 win over the Gunners will have sent out a strong message to their rivals.

Injury update

Nottingham Forest hope their injury list will soon begin to shorten as they aim to continue their charge up the Championship table.

Boss Steve Cooper has had to cope with a number of absentees in recent weeks, due to players being sidelined or in isolation for Covid-19.

Slowly but surely, though, some are edging closer towards being in contention for the first team again.

Defender Loic Mbe Soh made his return from a thigh problem when he featured for the under-23s earlier this week.

The former PSG youngster suffered the injury in training just before Cooper’s first match in charge, in September, with a setback then keeping him out of action for longer.
