Jeanfield Swifts midfielder Fraser Smith has Lowland League ambition

Their Scottish Cup performance showed they are more than capable of competing up a level.

Now there is greater determination than ever to secure promotion and rise through the pyramid system.

While Jeanfield Swifts were edged out 2-1 by Lowland League leaders Kelty Hearts last week, great confidence has been taken from it.

And midfielder Fraser Smith is hopeful the Perth club’s unbeaten run in the Premier Division can last for the foreseeable future to push up a level.

“That has always been the number one objective this year,” he said. “We certainly have the quality in the squad to win the league.

“But it has been the improvement in consistency this year that gives us the confidence we can get promoted to the Lowland League.

“I genuinely believe there’s no reason we can’t continue the unbeaten league run until the end of the season.

“There is never an easy game in the Premier Division, especially during the winter months when the park is less likely to suit how we want to play.

"But there is a confidence around the squad that we can win every game. This weekend against Sauchie is no different.”

Smith patrolled the centre of the pitch in the historic cup fixture at New Central Park last Saturday.

He said: “With the attacking quality we have, we knew if we were still in the game in the latter stages we would create chances.

“With the weather conditions and Kelty holding onto a one-goal lead, it was a nervous finish for them.

“We are obviously disappointed not to be in the next round of the cup but, in my opinion, we competed with a team that could hold their own in League Two.”
