Young footballers from Jeanfield Swifts Girls did themselves proud at a weekend finals’ day.
The Perth club returned from Bayview Stadium, home of East Fife, with two hard-earned East Region trophies on Sunday.
First up, the Jeanfield Jags U14s lifted the League Cup Plate following a 3-2 extra-time win against Panmure.
And celebrations continued in the afternoon when the U16 team defeated Dundee United 2-0 in the League Cup final.
Jeanfield Girls’ secretary Kevin Johnstone said: “The U14 Jags were first up and that went to extra time, which was probably quite a nervy moment for the coaches!
“They had settled into the game and kept going right through until the end.
“For a lot of these girls, this was probably their first time in a final in such a big venue and in front of a proper crowd.
“There was a decent crowd with many of the girls and parents staying for the full day to support all the teams.
“Our U16s were 0-0 at half-time with Dundee United but the girls did what they were asked.
“They went out in the second half, played some good football and took their chances.”
The U14s battled well but were just edged out by Dryburgh Athletic in their League Cup final.
“We came up against a very good and well organised Dryburgh team,” Kevin added.
“Unfortunately we lost that one on the day but it was still a major achievement getting to the final and experiencing it.
“It was a fantastic achievement to have three teams representing Jeanfield Swifts on the cup final day.
“It just goes to show all of the hard work that all of the girls and the coaches have been putting in.
“Seeing the girls enjoying themselves and progressing every week is just great for any coach.
“And getting to finals shows the younger girls in the club what they can move on to do.”
