Jeanfield manager reiterates importance of full squad after win against Dunbar

Jeanfield manager Ross Gunnion reiterated that every member of his squad can make a difference after the win against Dunbar.

Substitutes Reg McLaren and Gary Fergus came off the bench to seal the 3-0 win following a first-half opener from Chris Dodd.

Gunnion realises a number of players would be disappointed not to get the starting nod but has been thrilled with their attitude.

The Swifts boss was not taking any credit for the impact of his second half subs - and instead turned the spotlight on those on the field.

“The substitutes coming on make such a big difference,” Gunnion said. “The only two who can take the credit are Reg and Gary.

“Reg was unlucky not to get a second goal and Gary has been outstanding since minute one this season.

“He was unfortunate not to be in the starting line-up but, when he came on, the energy level was fantastic.

“We’ve got players who fit into a system. We are able to freshen it up and keep asking questions of the opposition.

“It’s fantastic that we’ve got 18 players who are all capable of coming on or starting at any given time.

“The reaction from all the substitutes today was great and that has been the way since the start of the season.”

St Johnstone youngster Ewan Loudon, who has joined Swifts until January, came off the bench late on and will add further competition.

“I think St Johnstone can see what we’re about,” Gunnion told the PA. “The days of the old mentality about it being rough and tumble are gone.

“The ball is on the ground more often than not and we have players of a good level and good coaches.

“St Johnstone will see the benefit of the move and hopefully we do as well. Ewan is a good young player who will be pushing for a starting place.”

Swifts remain unbeaten in the Premier Division having won three and drawn one of their opening four matches.

Gunnion said: “The draw against Crossgates was probably the only disappointment.

“But to be sitting unbeaten with three wins from four, we’re in the mix. It’s a long season and we plan to stay up there.

“We have three games in the space of a week from next Saturday and that will be a big test.

“But we’ll go into it with form, confidence and a squad who are all fighting for each other.”
