Jean Segura answered fan’s question about his favorite ice cream flavor in the middle of an at-bat

The absence of crowds at games last season robbed baseball fans of a year of interactions between players and fans. It’s part of the atmosphere, and it leads to some great moments.

Just last week, the Reds’ Jesse Winker turned a Mets fan’s rude sign into an opportunity to make a new fan. And on Monday, we saw another fantastic fan-player interaction play out in the middle of an at-bat.

As Phillies infielder Jean Segura was at the plate in the ninth inning with runners on first and second in Monday’s game against the Nationals, a young fan shouted from the stands to ask Segura what was his favorite ice cream flavor.

Segura could be seen shouting back his answer and smiling while in the box.

“Vanilla,” Segura answered back.

And two pitches later, Segura would tie the game with an RBI double. The Phillies would go on to win, 7-5, after the five-run ninth inning.

Let’s hope Segura celebrated with some ice cream. He deserved it.
