AC Milan are conducting further medical checks on Jean-Philippe Mateta ahead of his move from Crystal Palace amid concerns around his knee injury.

Milan have agreed to sign Mateta in deal worth around £30million but doubts have been raised over his transfer to the Serie A giants.

Mateta has been playing with pain in his knee all season Milan have sent club doctors to London to carry out further examinations.

Palace right-back Daniel Munoz had the same injury as Mateta and underwent surgery in December and missed around six weeks of action.

Mateta, who has scored 10 goals in all competitions for Palace, has so far avoided surgery but Milan want to take a closer inspection of the issue.

After Mateta agreed his switch to Milan, Palace moved over the weekend to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen and agreed a club-record £48million deal to sign the Wolves striker.

It remains to be seen if the Mateta deal will impact Palace’s move for Strand Larsen.

Palace are expected to pay an up-front fee of £43m for Strand Larsen with a further £5m in add-ons.

Mateta is keen to leave Palace as he looks to force his way into the France squad for the World Cup this summer.

He has no intention of signing a new deal at Selhurst Park.

Mateta has also attracted interest from Nottingham Forest, but is said to be interested in playing in Serie A.

The January window closes at 7pm tonight.
