Jean-Philippe Gbamin takes major step in injury recovery as Everton handed huge boost

Jean-Philippe Gbamin has taken a major step on his road to recovery having now returned to training with the Everton squad.

The 25-year-old worked with the Blues' players at Finch Farm on Friday, images released by the club today have confirmed.

Gbamin has played just 135 minutes of football since joining from Mainz in the summer of 2019 after a succession of injury problems.

A thigh problem, initially sustained in August of that year, required two bouts of surgery before his return to action in the summer was hit by an Achilles problem, which has kept the midfielder sidelined since.

But the Ivory Coast international has now returned to training and hopes to play again before the end of the season to kick-start his Everton career.

The sight of Gbamin training comes just days after James Rodriguez returned to full training and the Colombian is expected to be fit to face Crystal Palace after the international break.

Everton have yet to be a timescale on Gbamin's return to the team.
