Jean-Philippe Gbamin on where he'll play for Everton and when he'll make his debut

New Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin is prepared to play anywhere across midfield for boss Marco Silva as he eyes a Blues debut.

The 23-year-old arrived at Goodison last week in a £25m move from German side Mainz and was unveiled alongside fellow new boy Moise Kean at USM Finch Farm.

Fielding questions about his role in the team and where he was expecting to play, Gbamin said: "I’ve come here to play in the midfield, as a defensive midfielder if you like.

"But if the manager wants me to do so I can play in a number of positions.

"Whether it is in the number 8, the number 6 or defence, I will absolutely be ready for whatever position the coach needs me.

"From knowing him just a short time he puts his trust in you and he gives you confidence to go out and play and do your stuff on the field. I think that it will be a good relationship."

Gbamin was also asked about his ambitions having signed for the Blues and whether he thought the club can win titles and compete in Europe?

"We could maybe pick up a trophy along the way, maybe one of the cups", said Gbamin.

"That is the ambition of every professional player and I think we can get one of the European spots."

As for when he might make his Everton debut, Gbamin was a little cagier, having only begun training with his new team-mates this week.

"I’m concentrating on getting myself totally fit, this week might be a little bit too soon.

"As I say, I’ve only had two training sessions. A more realistic option might be the following game (at home to Watford, Saturday 17 August).
