Jean-Philippe Gbamin injury latest as Everton target remains

Jean-Philippe Gbamin remains confident he is on track to be fit for the start of pre-season training.

The Everton midfielder suffered further injury misery last month when his comeback lasted just one match.

Gbamin joined the Blues in the summer of 2019 but thigh and Achilles problems had restricted him to 135 minutes of action.

The 25-year-old returned to the team last month, however, and came off the bench to face Crystal Palace but a collision in training with Lucas Digne ahead of the trip to Brighton and Hove Albion ruled him out for what was left of the season with a knee injury.

Gbamin has avoided the need for surgery on the medial ligament damage but will not play again this term.

The £25m signing is undergoing rehab at Finch Farm and, at this stage, he is on course to be fit for the beginning of pre-season training in July.

Gbamin will hope to kick-start his Blues career, two years after he joined, although the rearranged Africa Cup of Nations tournament - which runs from January 9 until February 6 next year - does threaten to interrupt any progress being made at Goodison Park.
