Jean-Philippe Gbamin hands Marco Silva injury blow as Everton release statement detailing severity

Everton are due to release a statement about the injury of Jean-Philippe Gbamin which Marco Silva says is "more serious" than first thought.

The summer signing has sustained a "muscle injury" with the Blues not yet prepared to go into the specifics of the problem.

But Silva, speaking after his side's 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa, expects the £25m recruit from Mainz to be out for an extended period of time after tests revealed the problem was worse than initially believed.

The Portuguese manager confirmed that the Blues will issue an official statement on the injury problem.

Silva said of Gbamin's injury problem: "It’s more serious than we'd expected and will be some weeks.

“In some hours our medical staff will put out a statement."

Everton then wrote: "Midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin has sustained a significant injury to his right quadriceps muscle.

The 23-year-old will undergo further investigation with the Club’s medical staff at USM Finch Farm this week."
