Jean-Philippe Gbamin handed early Everton debut as Andre Gomes is dealt injury blow

Marco Silva has been forced to hand new signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin his debut earlier than planned after Andre Gomes picked up an injury.

Gbmain came on just before the end of the first-half at Selhurst Park today in Everton's Premier League opener with Crystal Palace.

Gomes appeared to have his foot accidentally trodden on by Andros Townsend earlier in the half and was unable to shake off the pain.

The Portuguese midfielder slumped to the turf just before the break and Silva was quickly informed the would not be able to carry on.

Gbamin, signed from Mainz earlier in the month for £25m, came on for the final few minutes of the half to make his Everton debut.

Silva will hope Gomes' injury is not too bad given he is already without Fabian Delph due to a groin problem.
