Jean-Kevin Augustin sends a clear message on his Leeds United future despite lockdown

Jean-Kevin Augustin is keen to stress he is working his hardest to get fit and play his part in Leeds United’s final nine matches.

The French striker’s loan switch from RB Leipzig has been something of a false dawn thus far with three substitute appearances followed by a hamstring injury.

The 22-year-old arrived in West Yorkshire with a big reputation which had been tarnished in recent months by struggles with Monaco and Leipzig.

However, Marcelo Bielsa’s loyalty to Patrick Bamford and Augustin’s poor condition meant he did not get a look in and may not have done if the season followed its planned timeline.

In recent days, Augustin has made a point of sharing videos of his exercise routine on Instagram, where he is training at full intensity. A message for fans.

If an arrangement is found to extend contracts for footballers beyond their agreed June 30 deadline to accommodate an elongated campaign, Augustin may yet have a role to play.

With nine matches still to play, starting up again in June would give the forward another six weeks to hone his sharpness and put Bamford under some kind of pressure.
