Jean-Kevin Augustin's 'positive' debut outlined by Carlos Corberan as injury fears downplayed

Carlos Corberan has allayed fears of a potential injury to Jean-Kevin Augustin after he was withdrawn at half-time in Leeds United's under-23 clash with Sheffield Wednesday, stating that he was following senior player protocol.

The Frenchman got his first taste of action in a Whites shirt as he featured in the opening half of a 2-2 draw against the Owls on Monday.

Augustin only played for the first 45 minutes however, and failed to re-emerge after the interval with fellow new recruit Ian Poveda brought on from the bench to replace him.

The former Monaco man's curtailed appearance sparked concerns of a problem, but youth boss Corberan has now revealed that he was simply taken off in order to following the expected process of limited minutes for key players in such games.

"Yes, we use the under-23 games to give minutes to the first team players," the Spaniard stated when asked about Augustin's inclusion. "A lot of first team players play, like Shackleton, Poveda and Augustin.

"We try to help them to [reach] the levels that they have. They need game time and these games are perfect for them, to continue playing and to be ready as soon as possible for the first time."

Corberan noted that Augustin was disappointed to be pulled at the interval, adding: "I think he was positive - he wanted to continue playing but we don't want the players to play more than 45 minutes because they have to follow the normal process of the week with the first team."
