Jean-Kevin Augustin opens up on his Manchester United snub after sealing Leeds United move

Jean-Kevin Augustin has opened up on just why he accepted Leeds United's offer to come to Elland Road - and why he turned down other clubs such as Manchester United to make it happen.

The Frenchman signed a loan deal until the close of the current campaign earlier this week, adding some fresh firepower up front for Marcelo Bielsa as the Whites continue to vie for a place in the Premier League.

Augustin attended United's comeback win over Millwall on Tuesday, where his new club sealed a return to the top of the Championship following a rough run of recent form.

Around the time of his capture though, news broke that Leeds had seen off a last-gasp bid from their old rivals to take the forward to Old Trafford instead.

Speaking at his first media briefing since his arrival, the former Paris Saint-Germain man revealed that once United came into the frame though, his decision was effectively made.

"I had one or two clubs who were interested in me," Augustin acknowledged. "But when I was making my decision, I didn't want to go to a club for the sake of it, I just didn't want to go anywhere for the sake of a move.

"I wanted to go somewhere that I was going to play, that I was going to get minutes and I would have clear aims and objectives for the end of the season, which I thought Leeds were definitely offering me.

"It wasn't a case of turning down clubs - you mention Manchester United - it wasn't a case of turning them down, it was just the fact that I had already made my decision.

"I'd decided that for me, as a player and a person, the best project, the best plan was provided by Leeds United and that was what I'd wanted to do, I'd decided already."

Augustin could make his debut as soon as this weekend's Championship battle against Wigan Athletic, with him eligible to feature at Elland Road on Saturday.
