A retired footballer needed 11 stitches after his girlfriend glassed him for chatting to another woman in a nightclub.
Lauren Dinse, 31, smashed a tumbler over Josh Walker's head after spotting him speaking to someone else in Edinburgh's Lulu venue last year.
The 30-year-old was left bleeding heavily from his head and was rushed to hospital, the Daily Record reports.
His partner pleaded guilty to the brutal assault when she appeared in Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
Mr Walker has recently retired from the game after suffering years of pain due to a serious knee injury sustained when he was a promising teenager.
The 30-year-old is best known for scoring Aberdeen's opening goal against German giants Bayern Munich in a knock out UEFA Cup match at Pittodrie in 2008.
The midfielder also played in the English Premiership for Middlesbrough at just 17 and captained England at the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt.
His last attempt at a comeback before giving the game up earlier this year was as captain of Scottish League Two side Edinburgh City who he signed for in 2017.
Prosecutor Alistair Millar gave a short narration to the court and said Dinse had been in a relationship with Mr Walker at the time of the assault.
Mr Millar said: "This incident took place in a nightclub where the accused has witnessed the complainer was speaking to another female.
"Her reaction to this was to hit him over the head with a glass.
"Mr Millar said CCTV of the attack was available but Sheriff Adrian Cottam declined to view the footage as he was content with the narrative.
The fiscal added Mr Walker's injury was described as "a deep laceration to the head which was five centimetres in length" and which required 11 stitches.
Defending solicitor Chelsea Martin said she would reserve her mitigation to the sentencing diet.
Sheriff Cottam said the assault to severe injury charge would require social work reports and he deferred sentence on Dinse to next month.
Dinse admitted to assaulting Mr Walker by striking him to the head with a glass to his severe injury at Lulu nightclub, George Street, Edinburgh, on December 9 last year.
Mr Walker scored the wonder goal for Aberdeen against Bayern Munich in a 2-2 draw at Pittodrie while he was just 18 after joining the club on loan from Middlesbrough.
He also played for Watford, Bournemouth, Rotherham and Indian side Bengaluru in an injury-hit footie career.
Mr Walker made the decision to quit the game in August this year due to the pain he was suffering from the knee injury and is currently teaching the game to kids at his Foot Forward Coaching business.
