'Jealous' husband jailed for trying to murder man he found in his wife's bed

A jealous husband who stabbed a man he found in his estranged wife's bed has been jailed.

Aung K Min had been separated from his wife Joanne for two years, Bristol Crown Court heard.

But when he attended her home in Villiers Road, Bristol, he found Ethan Shipley in her bed.

Having collected a knife from the kitchen he stabbed Mr Shipley four times, causing him serious injuries.

Min, 36, of no fixed address, denied attempted murder on May 17 but was convicted after a trial.

Jailing him for 16-and-a-half years, Judge Michael Cullum told him: "It is suggested you were provoked.

"I do not accept there was provocation but there was an explanation.

"That was seeing Ethan Shipley in your wife's bed.

"This was a brief but deliberate intention to kill a man who had done nothing wrong, who was left in agony and close to death."

The court heard that, in a tussle, Min stabbed Mr Shipley four times - three leaving penetrating wounds.

The first wound went into the right side of his chest and cut through 75 per cent of underlying liver.

The second and third wounds were inflicted to the left side of his chest and damaged his lung.

George Threlfall, defending, said the attack was out of character for his client, who character witnesses described as normally calm.

Mr Threlfall told the court: "The blue touch paper was lit and the red mist descended.

"It was spontaneous."
