Edinburgh boyfriend tormented partners after accusing them of cheating

A jealous and abusive boyfriend tormented a string of partners after accusing them of having affairs.

Jordan Bain, from Drylaw, launched into rages over alleged infidelities, once causing £1000 damage to a girlfriend’s car after claiming she was cheating.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard how Bain, 28, would quiz partners on their use of social media, convinced they were being unfaithful.

The Daily Record reports how the 28-year-old attacked one of the women in a desperate bid to get hold of her phone to check it.

Fiscal depute Eilidh Yates said Bain was in an 18-month relationship with the first victim starting in 2016.

Ms Yates described the pair arguing over a food order before Bain started demanding to see her mobile phone. She said: “He accused her of sleeping with other men.”

The court was told Bain called her a “fat sl**” before “wrestling with her to get her phone”.

Ms Yates said Bain pushed her onto a bed in her Edinburgh home then “put his knees on her arms so she couldn’t move”.

His girlfriend was “screaming for help” when Bain finally got hold of her mobile.

On Wednesday Bain admitted assaulting the victim in 2016 and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.

Ms Yates said Bain entered a relationship with the second woman in 2018, which ended the following April, but they remained in contact and were considered “on-off”.

She told how Bain repeatedly accused the victim of being “involved with other men” and called her a “fat sl**”.

On one occasion in October 2019, Bain accused her of cheating as she drove them in her car. Bain struck a display screen, causing £1000 of damage.

Ms Yates said Bain sent Instagram messages to the woman last year calling her a “pathetic little fat f**k” and a “very fat little sl**”.

On an occasion last March, Bain pursued her into her bathroom, telling her she was “active on Instagram 54 minutes ago” and “clearly talking to other guys”.

After the victim went to the bedroom, Ms Yates said Bain “without warning jumped up and lunged at her, pushing her with two hands to the shoulders, which caused her to fly back into the wall behind her”.

The court heard Bain started a relationship with the third victim in August 2019 which continued until last January although they remained in contact.

After the break-up, Bain sent messages accusing her of having a new partner and threatening to tell him that she and Bain had slept together.

Bain repeatedly implored her to contact him, messaging “Better get in touch before I let your secret out” and “I’m going to message him, it’s your own fault”.

He pled guilty to engaging in a course of behaviour which was abusive of his partners in relation to the second and third victims.

Defence agent Richard Souter said: “(Bain) does accept he has a problem with the way he deals with women with whom he’s in a relationship.”

Mr Souter said his client had “insecurities” which he “reflected or deflected” onto partners and was seeking support over his behaviour.

Sheriff Donald Corke deferred sentence for reports until later this month.
