Jealous businessman threatened to kill ex as she hid in bathroom of her own home

A scary businessman who terrified his ex after breaking into her Airdrie home has been fined.

Rebwar Mohammed, 40, burst into his former partner’s Fairhaven Avenue property on May 7.

She tried to evade his attention but he behaved aggressively throughout the property and stole her mobile phone to prevent her from contacting police.

After officers were eventually contacted and arrived on the scene, Mohammed began making threats to kill his ex, whom he was targeting because of his suspicions surrounding a new relationship.

The procurator fiscal said: “At around 5pm, the witness received a call from her ex-partner.

“They were in a relationship for 10 years but broke up in January 2019. He accused her of having a new partner, and she then heard a vehicle park outside and her front door being opened.

“The accused rushed in and the witness ran to the bathroom and locked the door.

“He forced the door open and snatched her phone, cancelling her call to police. She called police from another phone and they arrived shortly after.

“They tried to escort him from the property but he refused and was saying, ‘you know where I’m from, you’re dead’.

“He lashed out and kicked a wooden door in the living room that created a large hole. He stated to police, ‘she’ll be dead, trust me’.”

Mohammed’s defence solicitor said: “He’s 40-years-old and is a self-employed businessman.

“He pled guilty at the first stage and deserves credit for that. The report states he accepts his responsibility and is ashamed of his conduct.

“He hadn’t come to terms with the fact his relationship had come to an end.

“He’s earning enough money to pay a financial penalty as the report states unpaid work might be a bit problematic for him.”

Sheriff Frank Pieri said: “You’re saving grace is that you don’t have anything else like this on your record.

“You’ll pay a compensation order of £300 to your ex-partner and also pay a £300 fine to the court.”
