JAIPUR: Under the signal-free project at B2B bypass, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has planned to construct three subways at Jawahar Circle on JLN Marg.
The first subway will be constructed between state hanger road and airport terminal- 2. The civic body has started erecting the diversions board before starting the construction at the site. Following this, construction of two underpasses at opposite ends will begin.
An official said, “As pedestrians can reach Jawahar Circle without crossing the road, accidents in the area will be reduced. The JDA has also planned to construct 30 shops in three subways. Each subway will have 10 shops and JDA has planned to auction these units.”
An official said, the JDA will construct a six-lane 400-metre-long underpass at B2 bypass junction on Tonk Road. The construction of the underpass is proposed to be perpendicular to Tonk Road, which will lead to faster and smoother movement of vehicles in East-West direction. “The work to widen slip-lanes and permission to divert the traffic has been received. The work on the site has gained pace,” said an official.
The project was proposed at the place where B2 bypass junction intersects with Tonk Road, which is one of the critical locations that carry a high volume of traffic. The junction has four arms, which majorly connects Ajmer, Jagatpura, Kota and Jaipur.
“It is also one of the major intersections of Tonk Road connecting Durgapura to Sanganer and Pratap Nagar residential colonies to Sitapura Industrial area. Also, the connecting roads carry a major traffic solution due to presence of hotels, wedding areas, shopping malls, hospitals and airport terminal,” reads the feasibility report.
The project also comprises construction of two 600-metre cloverleaf structures, which will facilitate movement of vehicles towards Jawahar Circle and Mansarovar from Tonk Road. “It will also have pedestrian subway to provide easy and safe access for all the pedestrians,” added an official.
