JD Wetherspoon to create 10,000 jobs as it opens a string of new pubs

Pub chain JD Wetherspoon is set to create around 10,000 jobs as part of a massive £200m investment plan.

The listed pub group said it will invest the money across its business over the next four years, leading to the development of a host of new pubs and hotels across the UK and Republic of Ireland.

The investment will also lead to 10,000 new jobs being created.

JD Wetherspoon told investors that most of the new pubs being launched would be in small to medium sized town, although a number would be made in larger towns and cities.

Towns set to receive a new pub include: Bourne, Waterford, Hamilton, Ely, Diss, Felixstowe, Newport Pagnell and Prestatyn.

Meanwhile JD Wetherspoon will be investing in larger cities such as London, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Birmingham, Leeds, and Galway.

Wetherspoon founder and chairman Tim Martin said: "We are looking forward to opening many more new pubs as well as investing in existing pubs over the next four years.

"We are especially pleased that a large proportion of the investment will be in smaller towns and cities which have seen a decline in investment in recent years.

"The fact that we will be creating approximately 10,000 jobs is great news too."

Currently JD Wetherspoon operates 875 pubs and 58 hotels across the UK and Ireland. The new jobs will add to its existing 44,000 headcount.
