JD Wetherspoon has resubmitted plans to open pub on Gloucester Road

JD Wetherspoon has resubmitted plans to open a site on Gloucester Road following concerns raised by Environmental Health.

The firm has been keen to secure permission to open a new pub on the disused supermarket between The Anchor and The Royal Oak since 2014.

But a total of five applications have been submitted to Bristol City Council and rejected.

In October 2019 Wetherspoon resubmitted planning with changes made, but it was quickly withdrawn.

A JD Wetherspoon spokesperson for the company said the decision to withdraw its October plans were down to its limited time to respond back to questions raised by the Environmental Health Officer.

“No changes” have been made to the scheme.

Bristol Live have been told the plans went back in last month though it has not yet appeared publicly on the council planning website.

Over the last few years residents and businesses in the area have strongly been against the firms plans.

The history of Wetherspoons

In June 2018 a petition was launched to keep Wetherspoon away from Gloucester Road while nearby businesses owners have shared mostly negative views on the pub's potential arrival.

The main concerns raised in the previous attempts included noise, anti-social behaviour, binge drinking, the size of the development and also the amount of similar premises already in the area.

Despite past planning attempts, the firm’s January plans have been submitted and awaits council decision.
