JD(U) accuses its former ally BJP of not following 'Atal Aachar Samhita' of coalition dharma

PATNA: Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) on Sunday accused its former ally BJP of not following the “Atal Aachar Sanhita’ (code of conduct framed by former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee) of the coalition dharma.

In a political resolution, passed at its national council meeting held here on Sunday, JD(U) said though it showed “utmost patience” and tried its best to follow the coalition dharma while remaining in the NDA, the BJP remained engaged in damaging its ally’s organization and breaking the support base.

“The number of JD(U) seats in Bihar assembly reduced to 43 in 2020 because of the “conspiracy” hatched by our ally BJP during the assembly elections. While the JD(U) workers were focusing to ensure victory of all BJP candidates, the BJP workers were working to ensure victory of candidates of a regional party (LJP), who were originally from the saffron party. It was a “well-planned conspiracy” and we all were perturbed by this bitter truth,” the JD(U) said in the resolution.

“Our leader Nitish Kumar didn’t want to become the CM after the 2020 polls. He agreed to take oath as the CM at the request of the BJP’s central leadership. We expect that the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre will provide “adequate cooperation” in the development of Bihar. But it didn’t happen. The Centre did not accept even the demand of granting special category status to Bihar. The JD(U) is always in favour of granting special category status to all backward states including Bihar. But the BJP-led Government didn’t pay attention to this demand. Contrary, the saffron party remained engaged in the act of weakening our organization,” the JD(U) said.

“In Arunachal Pradesh, our seven MLAs had reached the assembly after defeating the BJP in 2019 assembly polls. The BJP broke our legislative party and inducted six of our MLAs in the saffron party in December 2020 when the JD(U) was part of the NDA. After the election, we had urged the BJP to induct one of our seven MLAs in the cabinet. Initially, they accepted it, but later the BJP backtracked. …. In such circumstances, all JD(U) MPs, MLAs, MLCs and senior leaders felt that the BJP could ditch the JD(U) once again in the coming elections. The recent statement of BJP national president J P Nadda that “Only BJP would remain, and all regional parties would be vanished” confirmed our apprehensions. Hence, our leader Nitish Kumar called a meeting of all senior party leaders on August 9 in Patna. At the meeting, all JD(U) leaders advocated in one voice that we should end our relation with the BJP,” the JD(U) said in the resolution.
