JD(S) national president HD Deve Gowda assures Basavaraj Bommai of support

BENGALURU: JD(S) national president HD Deve Gowda on Sunday said his party is ready to support the Basavaraj Bommai-led BJP government in case it faces any trouble.

Gowda said he doesn’t see any threat to the government as no other parties are interested in facing an early election.

“I have assured that my party will be there to support the government if there is any trouble. JD(S) does not want elections before 2023 and even others are of the same opinion. So, there will be no problem for the Bommai government,” Gowda told a news channel.

This comes after Bommai met him at his residence to take blessings.

The statement is being given a political colour in the backdrop of the prevailing situation wherein discord within BJP is expected after the cabinet expansion.

On a question about former chief minister BS Yediyurappa’s “interference” in the administration, Gowda said: “It would be difficult for Bommai to keep distance from Yediyurappa. But, he has his blessings, and the blessings of the BJP high command as well. So, there will be no problem as such.”

Bommai said he felt nostalgic when he took the blessings of Gowda as his father SR Bommai and the JD(S) patriarch were closely associated and worked together in the Janata parivar.

“He promised his cooperation when it comes to protecting the state’s interest and he told me to do a good job. I'm happy and relieved after meeting him. I will take his advice whenever needed,” said Bommai, who is originally from the Janata parivar.

Attitude not acceptable

"I stand with the chief minister that the ‘chalta hain’ attitude is not acceptable. Bureaucrats just pushing pens cannot be tolerated. On the Speaker’s statement about e-Vidhaan, perhaps it was restricted to only the legislature bureaucrats, not the entire bureaucracy," chief secretary P Ravi Kumar

Speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri claimed stiff bureaucratic resistance in implementing the e-Vidhaan (paperless system) in the legislature.
