Jazz forward Thabo Sefolosha: ‘I stand 100% with Russell Westbrook’

Russell Westbrook has the support of the Utah Jazz players.

Westbrook was seen on camera cursing at a fan during Monday night’s game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City. He was furious over something that was said to him from the stands, and after the game, he said that the fan told him to “get down on your knees like you’re used to.”

After Westbrook’s postgame remarks, social media identified the fan and uncovered a Twitter history that included racist and xenophobic tweets — much of which was about Westbrook. The fan deleted his Twitter account, and on Tuesday, Jazz forward Thabo Sefolosha went public to support Westbrook.

He posted on Instagram that he stood with Westbrook “100%” and the post was liked by Jazz teammates Donovan Mitchell and Jae Crowder.

Sefolosha wrote:

I stand 100% with Russell Westbrook on what happened in yesterday’s game. I love our fans but there are limits that can not be crossed! Support and cheer for your team and enjoy the action but fans like Shane Keisel, who use that platform to spur there hateful and racist views need to be held accountable.

Tuesday afternoon, Mitchell released his own statement about the incident and discussed the Jazz’s hopes to make their arena a more inclusive environment.
