Jayson Tatum talks supermax deals and the 2023-24 season at the Hall of Fame

In his first attendance at a Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame induction ceremony, star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum attended the ceremony as a surprise guest of 2023 Hall of Fame inductee Dwyane Wade per new reporting from the Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn.

Despite the motivational setting, Tatum emphasized that he is not in a rush to retire and that he wanted to show support and respect for Wade. The St. Louis native related how he’s excited for the Celtics season to come, even if he is in no hurry to end his offseason. “I’m always excited for the new season,” he explained. “It’s like a brand new opportunity.”

“I’m excited to see what we can do and we got a couple (of) months until we start, so I’m still going to enjoy my summer a little bit but it’s almost that time.”

Among the more controversial stories following the Celtics this summer has been the $304 million supermax extension inked by teammate Jaylen Brown, but to Tatum, there was nothing controversial about it.

“Much deserved, it was a no-brainer,” he suggested. “So I’m happy for him and his family. It’s life-changing. It’s a big deal. I’m happy we’re going to have him for however much longer we’ve got him for. I’m happy about that.”

As for his own looming supermax contract talks? “I don’t think about nothing of that,” said Tatum. “It’s one day at a time.”
