Jayson Tatum: Players work hard and ‘deserve everything we get’

NBA All-Star weekend may be a break from practice and the pressures of winning and losing, but it’s far from laid back because there’s no stopping the drama. Whether it’s the beef between Russell Westbrook and Joel Embiid or Anthony Davis saying all other 29 teams are on his “list” — which really isn’t a list anymore if you think about it, he just wants out of New Orleans — it’s neverending. Not to mention Kyrie Irving has elected to play in the All-Star Game after missing the Boston Celtics’ last two games with a sprained right knee.

In the mix of it all, Jayson Tatum, who scored 30 points in Friday night’s Rising Stars Challenge, was available for questioning prior to competing in Saturday’s NBA Skills Competition. According to Tom Westerholm of MassLive, he made some rather interesting comments about the perception of NBA players.

“I think sometimes people get the idea that we should be grateful to be where we are rather than that we worked for it, and we worked our butts off our whole life and deserve everything we get.”

Why can’t players be grateful to be where they are because they’ve worked so hard to achieve this goal? Seems like a fairly reasonable middle ground.
