Jayne Ludlow linked with vacant West Ham Women manager role

Wales manager Jayne Ludlow has been linked with a move to the Women’s Super League, with the BBC reporting that the 41-year-old is set to take charge of West Ham following Matt Beard’s departure from the club last month.

There has been no comment forthcoming from the FAW as yet.

Ludlow was appointed the director of women’s football and first-team manager of Reading in August 2013, before taking charge of the Welsh national team a year later.

She has spent the last six years with her country, overseeing their most recent European qualifying campaign, where they narrowly missed out to Northern Ireland.

During her playing career, the midfielder spent 13 years with Arsenal, joining the club in 2000 and eventually announcing her retirement from football in 2013. Over a decade with the Gunners, Ludlow won nine league titles, six FA Cups and one UEFA Women’s Cup.

Beard's departure from the Hammers by mutual consent was announced back in November.

The Hammers currently sit 10th in the WSL table following Sunday’s 4-0 win over Bristol City.

A difficult start to the 2020/21 campaign, including a heavy 9-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal back in September, meant changes needed to be made at the London club.

Goalkeeping coach Billy Stewart and first-team coach Paul McHugh have been in charge of the team temporarily.
