Jaylon Johnson eager to face off against Davante Adams

Before Jaylon Johnson was drafted by the Bears last year, he was asked which receiver he’d most like to face off against.

His answer was easy: Packers wideout Davante Adams. Now, he gets the opportunity twice a year.

Johnson has assumed the role of CB1 for the Bears following the release of Kyle Fuller earlier this offseason, and Johnson has been impressive through the first five games this season.

Johnson has allowed a 42.9 completion percentage (6th among cornerbacks), 44.9 passer rating allowed (9th), 6 pass breakups (tied-4th) and zero missed tackles. Johnson is also one of four cornerbacks who haven’t allowed a catch in the red zone this season.

Adams is one of the best receivers in the game, and he always has a threat to score. The Bears did a decent job of containing him last year, holding him to under 65 yards receiving in both games.

When asked if he would want to “follow” Adams on Sunday, Johnson had the perfect response.

“I want to follow the best receiver in every game,” Johnson told reporters Wednesday.

Johnson will face his toughest challenge this season in defending Adams, who leads the league with 579 receiving yards through five games.

“Everybody kind of plays the same way against him, and everybody has the same result,” Johnson said. He said it’s about “finding what works best against him.”

If the Bears are going to stand a chance in this game, they’re going to need a big game from Johnson.
