Jayhawk Dedric Lawson will play for the Warriors at Summer League

The 2019 NBA Draft was a flurry of selections and trades, but Dedric Lawson did not wind up in the mix. Yet, all hope is not lost for the a 6-foot-9, 25 pound forward who last played for Kansas as a redshirt junior. Following the draft, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported that Lawson had committed to play for the in Warriors in the NBA’s Summer League.

Lawson’s career average is 19.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. However, if things go well enough at Summer League for him to find a spot on the Santa Cruz Warriors roster, he may prove himself an invaluable asset to the team.

Santa Cruz finished second in the Western Conference last season and has the team stats to show for it. But one area in need of improvement is shooting from three-point range. Santa Cruz averaged 32.9 percent made threes. Lawson, meanwhile, has a career average of 39.4 three-pointers per game. So, if he can carve out a niche for himself as a three-point threat on a G League team whose affiliate, Golden State, has an injury-depleted roster, anything can happen.

Joining Lawson will be Jacob Evans, who was drafted by the Warriors in the first round in 2018, but still has much to prove.

Summer League runs from July 5 through 15 in Las Vegas, with most games televised on ESPN and its affiliate stations.
