Jayde Adams praised by deaf fan over her 'lip-readability' at gig

Bristol comedian Jayde Adams has been praised for her "lip-readability" by a deaf fan at her latest comedy performance. The Bedminster-native shared a heartwarming message written by Sarah, from South Bristol, who said Jayde's show was her first ever live comedy performance.

Sarah praised Jayde for her "fantastic lip movements" which made the show easy for her follow. She described herself as "profoundly deaf person" who struggled with how fast comics talk on stage, making it hard for her to lipread.

Jayde was incredibly flattered by the praise as she shared the message on Twitter. She wrote: "Can’t tell you what a compliment this is #menicansaveyou."

Sarah wrote: "Just wanted to say fabulous show last night at Torrington last night (sic)! It was my first live comedy act as a profoundly deaf person and you were a joy to lipread! I normally avoid comedy shows as they are too quick or difficult for me to follow, but I chose your show as you have fantastic lip movements and great body language which makes it so much easier to follow."

The fan also praised Jayde for her frankness in talking about her sister Jenna, who died in 2011 a few years after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. In 2021, Jayde told BristolLive: "When she was diagnosed, she grabbed my hand and said: ‘can you keep making everyone laugh, Jayde? Lighten it up a bit’, and that sort of became my job as she was going through the treatment.”

Sarah said: "I absolutely loved the ending of your show when you talked about your sister and selfcare - I really felt for you and wanted to give you a hug! Keep shining hun - you are fabulous!

"From the billynomates woman sitting in the front row wearing a black polo neck jumper (homage to the serious black jumper vibe!) called Sarah xxxx PS I like in Knowle, South Bristol so brilliant you are promoting South Bristol in your new comedy work."
