After affordable water, salt and cement, Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa has launched the 'Amma Baby Care Kit' scheme, which has essentials and accessories meant for a newborn and its mother.
After its announcement in the assembly in August 2014, Jayalalithaa launched the scheme on Monday by giving away the kits to five mothers in at the state secretariat.
The kit contains a towel, bed, dress, mosquito net, napkin, 100ml oil, 60ml shampoo, a soap with a box, a nail-clipper and doll for the child besides a hand sanitiser. The kit also contains a locally made medicine for the mother besides a box to store essentials meant for the newborn. The kit has 16 materials whose value was Rs 1000.
In the current year, a sum of Rs 67 crore has been allotted for this purpose, wherein the baby care kit will be provided to newborns in government hospitals, the release said.
Popularly addressed as Amma, the CM has previously launched a wide range of subsidised products, including Amma packaged water, Amma salt, Amma pharmacy, Amma cement and the affordable food chain - Amma Canteen.
