Jay-Z uses Wonderwall to diss Noel

Just when you thought there was no more mileage in the so-called feud between Jay-Z and Noel Gallagher, the rapper has to go and throw more coal on the fire. "That bloke from Oasis said I couldn't play guitar," he rapped during a performance of his new song Blueprint 3 last night, "somebody should have told him I'm a fuckin' rock star." During the same show at New York's Madison Square Garden, the rapper nicked the line "Today is gonna be the day that I'm gonna throw it back to you" from Oasis' 1995 song Wonderwall, though he failed to rekindle the hearty rendition he performed at Glastonbury. Which is probably a good thing.

The war of words began when Gallagher reacted to the announcement that Jay-Z would be headlining Glastonbury 2008 by saying: "I'm not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong". His comments provoked Jay-Z to mock him onstage during the performance, though earlier this week NME published an interview in which Gallagher appeared to want to put the whole episode behind him: "I wasn't saying I was better than Jay-Z as a person or rock was greater than hip-hop. I said what I said, and it was wrong, or it was taken wrong."

Fat chance, apparently, as Jay-Z seems determined to use Noel's words as inspiration for his performances until at least 2009.
