Jay Gruden won’t comment on Jordan Reed’s long-term health just yet

Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed is in concussion protocol again, this time after a helmet-to-helmet preseason hit.

Reed has a long history with concussions, with six documented before this latest setback.

Asked about if there is a long-term worry, Redskins coach Jay Gruden wouldn’t comment, as captured by Brian McNally of NBC Sports Washington: “I can’t say one way or the other. Right now it’s about getting him well.”

At this point though, the long-term discussion would have to come into play. This is the seventh reported concussion for Reed — emphasis on reported.

At his best, Reed is a top-10 player at his position. But he’s also 29 years old and has consistently had these setbacks. Based on his injury history here, it seems doubtful he’d be available for Week 1.

Vernon Davis is the first man up on the depth chart behind Reed, with Jeremy Sprinkle and others also in the mix.
