Jay Gruden wants to see Dwayne Haskins be more comfortable calling plays in huddle

Outside of what sounds like a brief trip, Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins will spend the bulk of his summer break digesting material the team and head coach Jay Gruden throws at him.

Which is good because while Gruden likes what he sees — especially for throwing so much at a rookie — he wants the Ohio State product to get more comfortable in the huddle.

Tarik El-Bashir of The Athletic caught up with Gruden above, though this sticks out: “When he comes back to camp, hopefully it will be more natural to him, calling plays in the huddle.”

It is a small thing given the circumstances in June, though this could quickly turn into a bigger point if training camp arrives and Haskins hasn’t progressed in this area.

Given his experience, it is safe to say Case Keenum doesn’t have issues in this area. In other words, Gruden might have just hinted at the defining trait of the upcoming quarterback battle.
