Jay Gruden wants to keep coaching

Former Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden would like to keep coaching — when the time is right.

Gruden has hit the interview circuit recently about a week removed from being let go in Washington.

Among other things, Gruden has noted he wasn’t on the same page as the front office in some areas.

He’d also like to get back to coaching, as he told the Dan Le Batard Show (h/t Peter Hailey, NBC Sports Washington):

“I feel like coaching is what I want to do. It’s what I was born to do. I love the game, I love being part of it. I love leading people, young groups of men and trying to get them better and maximize their potential. Unfortunately, I did a poor job of that at Washington, but hopefully I’ll get another crack at it.”

Much of what fans are learning from Gruden at this stage isn’t too much of a surprise. He wasn’t always on the same page as the front office and it was clear he could lose his job if wins didn’t happen early. He and his staff also didn’t feel like Dwayne Haskins was ready, simple as that.

As for coaching, it’s hard to say where Gruden might surface next. He had a lot of unfortunate luck with injuries and fits with the front office in Washington but was also a successful coordinator in Cincinnati.
