Jay Gruden targets limiting pressures to improve Redskins offense

Jay Gruden has heard plenty about how his Washington Redskins– even without Trent Williams — haven’t given up many sacks through two games.

But pressures? Plenty.

Gruden hit the podium Wednesday and said one of the problems assailing his offense so far is the allowance of pressures.

ESPN’s John Keim summed up the head coach’s thoughts: “Gruden said even tho they haven’t given up many sacks they are giving up “a lot of pressures”. A couple times Gruden said the collapsing pocket might have prevented Keenum from seeing some open targets down the field.”

Even so, the lack of sacks has been good enough to help Case Keenum throw for more than 600 yards already. No wins, but the numbers are encouraging.

Unfortunately for the Redskins, this task gets almost immeasurably more difficult in Week 3 against a Chicago Bears defense sporting Khalil Mack.

And another thing — it sure doesn’t seem like a star left tackle is walking back through that door right now.

For Gruden, the talent available to him is what it is and rest assured we’ll see some new looks in an effort to combat some of these pressures his line has allowed so far.
