Jay Gruden sounds optimistic about Jordan Reed’s status

Washington Redskins star tight end Jordan Reed ended up missing his team’s Week 1 loss at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles.

But head coach Jay Gruden doesn’t see a key cog in his offense missing much longer, as captured by Matthew Paras of the Washington Times: “Gruden said he’s very optimistic about Reed, but said the most important thing is getting him symptom free.”

Reed suffered a concussion in preseason action and the Redskins made a roster move to compensate for it going into Week 1.

While Reed was out, Vernon Davis stepped in and caught four passes for 59 yards and a score, though eight different targets caught passes on the day.

Obviously, Reed will be near the top of the targets list once he’s back on the field — and the Redskins would love to have him in Week 2 against a team like the Dallas Cowboys.
