Jay Gruden singles out Paul Richardson with praise

Washington Redskins receiver Paul Richardson has been an interesting topic surrounding the team in training camp.

Richardson has been very upfront about the injuries he played through last year and his role as a mentor.

What fans hadn’t heard much of in regards to Richardson was his on-field play, which Redskins coach Jay Gruden made sure to change Monday, according to ESPN’s John Keim:

“Gruden on Paul Richardson: ‘Yesterday was the best day seeing him run… He can be a major force for us.’ Said it’s important for the other QBs to see that speed on film.”

The Redskins still have high hopes for Richardson, who came over via free agency last year but never really got going.

After surgery and apparently boasting the speed that made him such an attractive free-agent add in the first place, Richardson could be headed for the envisioned big year for the Redskins — which would go quite a long way toward helping whoever ends up winning the quarterback battle.
