Jay Gruden says watching Dwayne Haskins is ‘like a video game’

One of the biggest accomplishments for an NFL player is to be likened to a player in EA Sports’ “Madden” video game, putting up stats so exemplary that your opponent is tempted to forfeit the game early and return to the comfort of the home screen.

For Washington Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins, a comparison to video game players is already being made by his coach.

“He has a natural ability to keep his eyes up and down the field. It’s like a video game where he can see and make all the throws,” said Redskins coach Jay Gruden, via ESPN.com. “There’s a lot to like about him, and there’s a lot to clean up, as we would expect. But he’s been impressive.”

Gruden has been vocal about the encouragement he has after seeing Haskins perform well in minicamp, but he has also been sure to stay grounded, often noting that the 15th overall pick in the 2019 Draft still has a lot of growing to do.

A comparison to digital hobbies that can be set to ‘rookie’ level may not seem like a huge compliment, but if Haskins is able to put up the numbers that are sometimes posted in Madden, there won’t be any games forfeited early in Washington.
