Jay Gruden says somebody will rise to the top in QB competition

One of the most crucial decisions for a young and unproven team in the NFL offseason is figuring out who will be the starting QB when the next season kicks off.

For the Washington Redskins — who are waiting with bated breath while Case Keenum and Dwayne Haskins duke it out in OTAs — the coaches and front office are expecting that decision to mostly work itself out over the rest of the summer, and a starter will be crowned come fall.

“We don’t expect perfection on Day One, but we do expect the guys to know what we’re doing when we go out on the practice field, execute and continue to get better each and every day,” Gruden said, via the Washington Post. “Somebody’s going to rise, I would think. Cream always rises to the top, and we’re hoping that’s the case.”

With both Keenum and Haskins new to the team and learning the system, the playing field is much more even than the average competition. Keenum took the first rep on  Monday morning, but Gruden made sure to remind everyone that it is a lengthy process before a clear winner is chosen.
