Jay Gruden says Case Keenum’s foot was reason for benching, won’t name starter vs. Patriots

The Redskins benched starting quarterback Case Keenum early in the game on Sunday after he had badly overthrown two receivers and was responsible for one interception and zero points.

After the game, coach Jay Gruden said his decision to sit Keenum was due to his foot injury rather than a lack of production.

Gruden also commented on the performance of rookie QB Dwayne Haskins, who came in during the relief of Keenum and threw three interceptions. Gruden said that he hasn’t made a decision on who will start at the position next week.

It is expected that backup QB Colt McCoy will also be able to play next week after rehabbing from a broken leg suffered last season. At this point, it seems like he is the only option that the Redskins could go with if they hope for it to inspire any confidence.
