Jay Gruden says Colt McCoy is still dealing with the same injury

The Washington Redskins revealed they wouldn’t have quarterback Colt McCoy on the field for Thursday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Now more details about the issue are starting to trickle out.

JP Finlay of NBC Sports quoted Gruden as saying “Right now he’s not able to do much” about McCoy. Finlay also reported in the same thread that Gruden noted this is the same injury that plagued McCoy last year.

It’s a rather stunning, unfortunate setback for all parties. The Redskins would like to have McCoy on the field to take part in the battle with Case Keenum and Dwayne Haskins. As the quarterback with the most experience in town, he’d obviously like to be out there.

Perhaps more troubling is the continued injury trend in Washington. Derrius Guice had multiple setbacks and still isn’t cleared. McCoy has these setbacks now and Trent Williams is holding out in part after a fallout from a scary offseason operation.

At this point, the Redskins might not have one-third of their quarterback competition even going through game action until Week 3 of the preseason at best.
