The Washington Redskins are nearing regular season form, but the locker room is still waiting for one of their veteran players to return to full strength, and it looks like that may not happen until a few weeks into the regular season.
When speaking with the media over the weekend, Redskins coach Jay Gruden commented on the health of quarterback Colt McCoy, and when the team expects to see him. McCoy — who broke his leg in December — hasn’t played in either of the preseason games yet this season, and his standing in the QB depth chart in Washington is dropping rapidly.
According to JP Finlay, with NBC Sports Washington, Gruden thinks that McCoy won’t make his return to action until a few weeks into the regular season. He has yet to be completely cleared by the medical staff, and Gruden says there is no timetable for his return.
McCoy was originally thought to be part of the three-man competition for the starting QB spot with the Redskins, but if he doesn’t end up being cleared until Week 2 or 3, then the chances of him starting the remainder are slim-to-none.
